With the planting of the last of the 1,000 pine trees donated by SIGAUS, the representatives of the Entity and the Town Hall of Colmenar Viejo officially launched the new SIGAUS Forest, a forest area located in the municipal plot of the neighbourhood of Santa Teresa, between Avenida Adolfo Suárez and Avenida del Mediterráneo.

This act debuted the new urban forest within the initiative implemented in 2012 by the entity that recovers used industrial oil in Spain and has already planted 7,000 trees in 7 different towns in the Community of Madrid, currently reaching 17 hectares of reforested land.

From city hall, the Mayor appreciated the initiative by SIGAUS, which joins the effort that the town is making through “Colmenárbol 2020”, a project with which the Town Hall has committed to plant 10,500 new trees before January 1st 2020 in order to create a green ring around the town centre the bring well-being and quality of life to the neighbours.

SIGAUS’ contribution joins the “Colmenárbol 2020” project though which the local Town Hall has committed to plant 10,500 new trees before January 1st, 2020.

Thanks to SIGAUS, “in this place a promenade has been prepared with many trees and comfortable paths that invite people to enjoy with their families, pets, etc. and that we will see grow over the coming years thanks to the drip irrigation that has been installed throughout”, explained the mayor after collaborating with the SIGAUS representatives for the planting of the final pine trees.

For his part, the CEO of SIGAUS stated that these forests are “a way of compensating society for part of the impact of our industrial activity, providing a notable benefit for citizens in line with the commitment under which we develop our work of caring for and preserving the environment”.

This plantation is the result of the collaboration agreement signed in February between the local city hall and SIGAUS for the donation of 1,000 trees under the framework of the “You do more than you think” initiative, which recognises the work by citizens that actively participate in the distribution and awareness campaigns on social media and that contribute towards defending the environment through their role as consumers.

As occurred with the SIGAUS Forests in Alcobendas, Majadahonda, Las Rozas, Coslada, Leganés and Collado Villalba, this new forest area has been identified with posters that show that this new forest has been planted thanks to the support of SIGAUS and the city hall, and informs residents of the benefits associated to this type of environmental initiative.

As well as the donation of 1,000 trees and the drip irrigation system, SIGAUS will be responsible for replacing the dead trees after the first summer period posterior to planting, as necessary, to complete the number donated.
