Supporting vulnerable and at-risk-of-exclusion groups is the action axis of the Social Action policies which SIGAUS is supporting in 2019 and, for this reason, it has recently formalized individual collaboration agreements with three organizations that work in the sector: Fundación Síndrome de Dravet, Fundación Porque Viven, and APADIS, each dedicated to family support and research of this rare disease, palliative care for sick children, and inclusion of people with disabilities, respectively.

SIGAUS President, Buenaventura González del Campo and its Managing Director, Eduardo de Lecea, met at SIGAUS headquarters with the representatives of these organizations in order to learn about the work they perform and formalize the respective collaboration agreements which in 2019 will allow these entities to put in place different projects related to supporting the groups they work with.

SIGAUS will donate a total of 8,000 Euro to each of these entities, that will be destined to boost specific projects and services that these groups already receive, and others that will start thanks to this financial support.

As explained by Fundación Síndrome de Dravet's President, José Angel Aibar, the key for moving forward for curing this rare disease is research and also visibility so that society and the medical community become aware of it, and to facilitate its early detection, thus being able to revert part of the negative cognitive consequences it causes in children, as they suffer, usually as of the first year of age, several epileptic crisis and fevers.

For his part, Fundación Porque Viven’s Director, José Carlos López Seisdedos, thanked entities such as SIGAUS for their involvement in a sector such as paediatric palliative care, an area that is very necessary currently, as the families and caretakers of these children need home assistance, relief resources or programs while they undergo very hard situations. “We wish to improve the direct care for the children who need it, supporting with resource, and, at a psychological level, their families, and making sure they have a life that is as full as possible,” pointed this Foundation's officer.

As for APADIS, the manager of this Parent Association of People with Disabilities, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, explained that the entity, founded in 1981 by a group of these families who did not have support or resources for their children, currently provides six different services, like, a day care centre, sports and leisure programs, a special labour centre, supervised flats for adults with disabilities, early care for babies from 0 to 3 years of age or an important work intermediary service, benefiting at this time more than 1,000 users.

SIGAUS collaboration will support the expansion of the centre’s cafeteria and help complete funding for a multisensorial classroom for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), for which both the Centre's Director, María Sosa, and Jiménez, thanked SIGAUS. “Supporting these projects facilitates full inclusion of these individuals, both at a social and occupational level, and at all areas of their lives, encouraging their independence and the development of a normal life,” APADIS declared.
