The SIGAUS team successfully completed the 7 stages and the 3,000 kilometres through the Panda Raid desert.
After an intense week facing obstacles of all types, several vehicle breakdowns and the inclement weather conditions, the Panda Raid team sponsored by SIGAUS, with the drivers Alberto Romero and Alejandro Sánchez, managed to complete this adventure through the desert in a Seat Panda and Seat Marbella, bringing back not just anecdotes but the experience of having shared, together with 349 other teams, the team spirit and collaboration that characterises this rally, which has just celebrated its tenth edition.

During 7 days, the 350 teams that formed part of the 2018 Edition of the Panda Raid amateur rally enjoyed, and suffered, the desert in its purest form, driving through terrain far from the usual tourist routes and the roads drawn on maps in a journey that took them across Morocco from north to south and east to west, from Nador to Marrakesh.
In the case of the team supported by SIGAUS, the drivers, Alberto Romero and Alejandro Sánchez, successfully completed this “Cross Country Rally” under the slogan of “kilometres for the environment”, bring a message to the local population of the importance of protecting the environment from a waste as hazardous as used industrial oil and the benefits of recovering it for new use.

Despite fatigue and difficulties, all of the participants have agreed on the human enrichment they experienced by taking part in a non-competitive rally where the mutual support and solidarity towards the local population were the priority, showing that it is possible to balance economic development and environmental protection while raising awareness of the importance of contributing towards the conservation of the ecosystems.

Throughout the journey through the desert, the SIGAUS team distributed solidarity aid in the most disadvantaged areas of the country by delivering school materials to children living in the towns along the route. In this way, the Entity has reinforced its social commitment and its focus on helping with development beyond its environmental awareness and waste management work.
This adventure, which tested the physical abilities of the teams and their level of camaraderie and mechanical knowledge, was “an experience of personal achievement where every day was an experience to learn and face something new” for the SIGAUS drivers. In this sense, as Alberto Romero explains, “the support from SIGAUS was essential in order to bring aid to the children and become spokespeople for a message as important as caring for the environment”.
Through social media and its own blog, SIGAUS followed each minute of the race, the mechanical complications and the achievement of each stage, as well as the experiences of the drivers during this adventure.
With the support of this rally, SIGAUS also participates in the commitment to the environment shown by the organisation, as, once the CO2 emissions released to the atmosphere during the race have been calculated by the organisation, the Entity can compensate for them, together with the GoodPlanet Foundation, by investing an amount equivalent to said emissions in maintaining the biodiversity of the Mesguina forest, in Agadir, a space where 150 farmers practice beekeeping in over 3,000 beehives, producing one of the most valued honeys in Morocco and creating a significant source of income for the residents.
