SIGAUS returns to Motortec to show car repairs its work in managing waste oil

The organisation attended the 17th edition of this leading trade fair for the automotive industry and aftermarket sector in southern Europe, where it explained to car repairs the vital role they play in managing waste oil, and how they can register free of charge for the SIGAUS Collaborating Workshop Programme. The SEPRS event also included the participation of GENCI, which informed visitors about new regulations affecting professional packaging.

Three years on from its last edition, SIGAUS returned to Motortec to show its support for the automotive aftermarket sector. The event was highly successful, attracting 65,000 professional visitors and 640 participating companies, and filling six IFEMA pavilions.

At its stand, SIGAUS explained its work in managing waste oil, especially in car repairs, which are the main producers of this waste. Each year, SIGAUS’s network of management companies collects around 65,000 tonnes of waste oil from 35,000 car repairs across Spain, requiring 100,000 collection operations. As well as answering visitors’ questions, SIGAUS told them about sector-specific initiatives, such as the ‘SIGAUS Collaborating Car Workshop’ scheme, which allows car workshops to join for free and receive a signage kit that certifies them to customers as responsible businesses complying with waste oil regulations and protecting the environment.

Numerous groups of vocational training students from various mechanics and automotive degrees also approached Motortec, visiting the SIGAUS stand and learning first-hand about its Environmental Classroom. This training project, which has already involved 3,300 students, targets future professionals who will handle waste oil, introducing them to waste management processes and the good practices they must follow when handling and storing it.

At this meeting, SIGAUS demonstrated its support for car repairs, a sector that produces 65,000 tonnes of waste oil each year across 35,000 establishments.

The stand also featured the latest technology in artificial intelligence. Using an interactive screen with AI-generated animated characters from the SIGAUS universe, visitors learned in an engaging way about waste oil management, including the treatments it can undergo to produce new products, the environmental benefits, and the characteristics of next-generation lubricants.

At Motortec, SIGAUS also showcased its most charitable side. Visitors to its stand were given a personalised cookie with the image of Siggy, the SIGAUS mascot, as a gift. The cookies were made by APADIS, an association that supports people with intellectual disabilities, with whom SIGAUS has been collaborating since 2018.

At this edition, SIGAUS was also joined at its stand by GENCI, the SEPRS for industrial and commercial packaging management, which was born out of SIGAUS’s experience. GENCI informed visitors of the new obligations that took effect on 1st January under the new regulations, which affect companies selling or distributing packaged products to other companies in the automotive sector, among others. These companies are required to finance management of the waste for the packaging they have marketed, which they can do through GENCI’s services without paying a membership fee.
