Efficiency and targets met, the pillars of SIGAUS activity in 2024
The company has published its 2024 Sustainability Report in a renewed, visual, and interactive edition that transparently analyses its economic, environmental, and social activities for the last year. The report presents an analysis of waste oil generation using various GIS-generated maps that examine waste generation nationwide.

The SIGAUS 2024 Report, available at https://memoria2024.sigaus.es, maintains the innovative, digital, and interactive format of the previous edition, combining animations and infographics for better understanding of the information while also offering an attractive browsing experience. This year, we have advanced in digitisation by incorporating interactive maps that enable us to visually and dynamically explore waste oil collection in challenging areas such as rural environments, mountainous regions, or sparsely populated zones. This tool, born from SIGAUS's extensive information and traceability capabilities, helps to visualise and comprehend the logistical effort required to reach every part of the country and ensure all this waste is collected and fully recycled.
The Report also details the system's 2024 activity in economic, environmental, and social spheres, including chapters on the lubricants market, awareness-raising initiatives, support for social projects, and, fundamentally, its core purpose: to efficiently and sustainably manage industrial waste oil once it has been collected and fully recovered. In this regard, the Report highlights data such as the management of over 132,000 tonnes of waste oil, after serving 66,500 generating points and conducting more than 177,000 collection operations (many in hard-to-reach environments). It also details the benefits of waste treatment, including preventing the emission of 83,700 tonnes of CO₂ and saving 1,275 GWh of energy.

A further new feature of the 2024 Report is a downloadable infographic that summarises key SIGAUS management data for 2024: marketed oil volume, waste oil generation across the territory, waste collection, measures to extend lubricant lifespan, and waste treatment and new products that can be obtained.
CEO's video report
For his part, Eduardo de Lecea, CEO of SIGAUS, reviews, in his video report, the most important milestones of the year, highlighting various key factors that define SIGAUS’s approach to the implementation of extended producer responsibility, such as respect for the free market, universal service, and a commitment to digitisation, as well as how these factors have contributed to the launch of GENCI, the SEPRS for professional packaging that is the result of SIGAUS’s experience and now serves more than 2,000 companies.

In the words of Eduardo de Lecea, “We remain the positive environmental story: we collected and recovered 100% of all waste oil generated in Spain, transforming it into new resources and avoiding a significant impact on our environment.” The report also highlights how 2024 saw SIGAUS, for the first time in its history, change the fee that member companies pay into the system, reducing it from €60 to €50 per tonne. “Another example of our efficiency, which is passed directly on to the end consumer, such as motorists or industry,” says De Lecea in his report.
The SIGAUS Report also demonstrates that 2024 has been an excellent year for the organisation’s communication efforts, which is evident in its more than 400,000 social media followers and over 10 million views on these platforms. All this has been achieved without losing sight of its commitment to society, with initiatives that continued to grow, such as the SIGAUS Environmental Classroom, the SIGAUS Forests project, and support for organisations working with vulnerable individuals.
