In line with its communication strategy to promote transparency with stakeholders, SIGAUS has published its ninth Progress Report since becoming a signatory entity to the United Nations Global Compact in 2011. The report includes measures adopted by SIGAUS in 2021, in line with the UN Principles.

“Through this tool, we continue to take steps on the road to change, always committed to transparency towards all our stakeholders and society, to whom we give an account of how we integrate the Principles of this Sustainability Pact into our corporate strategy and in our daily work, and how, in our work during these difficult years, we have continued to contribute to an inclusive and truly transformative economic and social growth,” says Eduardo de Lecea, General Director of SIGAUS, in his letter of renewal of the commitment contained in the report.

Of particular note among the actions adopted by SIGAUS in 2021, regarding the application of the Global Compact Principles, are those relating to prevention, a field in which the entity has been working towards ensuring that society can enjoy a more protected, sustainable environment and which has enabled the adoption of more than 7,200 measures since 2010. In this sense, the IMS has favoured the placing on the market of less polluting oils and the use of regenerated bases in the formulation of new lubricants, among other measures.

In labour matters, the new Progress Report gives an account of the measures adopted by SIGAUS to attract and retain the talent of its human capital, avoiding discrimination against employees and fighting corruption, measures that are included in its Code of Ethics and Competence, and that are rigorously complied with by all employees and Corporate Governance.

As far as environmental protection is concerned, the report points out that in 2021, practically 100% of the waste oil generated in Spain was collected and recovered in its entirety, serving almost 68,700 producers of waste in more than 4,800 municipalities across Spain, in which more than 174,000 collections were carried out. The report also highlighted how nearly 80% of the waste oil managed was regenerated, which enabled more than 63,500 t of new lubricants to be returned to the market, and avoided the emission of 67,700 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere and the consumption of 30 million barrels of oil, which would have been otherwise needed to obtain the same amount of industrial oils.
