In line with its communication strategy to promote transparency with its stakeholders, SIGUAS has published its fifth Progress Report which gave it the status of signatory of the United Nations Global Compact in the year 2011. This report includes the measures that SIGAUS has adopted in 2017 in line with the Principles proposed by the UN.
This document “gives us the opportunity to undertake an exercise of transparency with our groups of interest regarding the integration of the Ten Principles to our corporate strategy, based on efficiency, sustainability and responsibility when performing our main work: the efficient management of used industrial oil in Spain”, as stated by Eduardo de Lecea, General Director of SIGAUS, in his letter renewing the commitment stated in the report.
Among the actions adopted by SIGAUS in 2017 regarding the application of the Principles of the Global Compact, we can highlight those related to prevention, a field where the Entity’s work has led towards society being able to enjoy a better cared for and sustainable environment and which has permitted the adoption of 4,500 measures since 2010. In this sense, the Integrated Management System has favored the marketing of less contaminating oils and the use of regenerated bases in the formulation of new lubricants, among other aspects.

Likewise, other measures adopted have been the strict compliance with the national and international legislation, along with policies to attract and keep hold of talent, the non-discrimination of employees, and the struggle against corruption, all through the rigorous application of the Code of Ethics and Competences on the part of employees and Corporate Governance at SIGAUS.
Regarding environmental protection, the report highlights how SIGAUS’ work in 2017 has permitted the collection of practically 100% of the used oil generated in Spain, as well as complete recovery, while also attending to the over 69,000 establishments that produce waste throughout the territory. Over 70% of the used oil collected was regenerated, which allowed over 62,000 tonnes of new lubricants to be returned to the market and stopped 280,000 tonnes of CO2 from being emitted into the atmosphere.
As well as presenting the report, SIGAUS wanted to go one step further in its commitment to the United Nations Global Compact, by simultaneously completing a voluntary report document where the Entity informs of the boost that its work gives to the SDO established by the UN.
