The SIGAUS Environmental Classroom project visited the University of Murcia on 11 April to offer its training on industrial waste oil management to a group of around fifty third-year Environmental Science Degree students, which covers a wide range of subjects relating to the environment and sustainability, such as environmental biology, environmental chemistry, geology and environmental management. In this regard, the Degree is closely related to the work of SIGAUS in industrial waste oil management, as it also deals with the environmental impact assessment of various industrial activities, including the generation and management of hazardous waste such as waste oil.

"This type of university-business collaboration is important, as it can lead to other types of synergies. Furthermore, this training allows SIGAUS to project all of its knowledge on industrial waste oil management onto society."

During the one-and-a-half-hour training session, SIGAUS gave the University of Murcia students a detailed overview of the industrial waste oil management process in Spain, providing them with guidelines to help them handle this waste in their future professional careers. They also stressed how waste oil is a waste product that, if collected and properly treated, can be 100% recycled and used to make new oils or industrial fuels. At the end of the presentation, the students put their acquired knowledge to the test by participating in an interactive quiz on the Kahoot! platform, obtaining very positive results that demonstrated their understanding of the topic.
The SIGAUS team was received by Asunción Hidalgo, Vice-Dean of Chemical Engineering at the University of Murcia, who highlighted how important it is for students to be able to receive this type of training first hand. According to Hidalgo, this type of university-business collaboration is important, as it can lead to other types of synergies. Furthermore, the Vice-Dean noted that this training not only allows SIGAUS to comply with its Environmental Classroom training programme, but also to project all of its knowledge on industrial waste oil management onto society.
