SIGAUS and GENCI will once again support the National Congress of the Association of Environmental Information Journalists (APIA), for the sixth consecutive year in the case of SIGAUS, and for the second year in the case of GENCI. This 16th edition is one of the leading events in environmental journalism, held every two years, which brings together journalists, communication professionals, environmentalists, engineers, and environmental educators or communicators, among others, to foster debate, assess the current state of the field, and, above all, put forward for discussion conclusions and possible solutions to the main challenges in environmental communication.

This year's edition, themed "Let's tell some truths", will include talks and case studies with SIGAUS and GENCI to highlight the importance of environmental awareness and of communication as a means to involve all those participating in the waste management chain, in this case used industrial oils and professional packaging waste. For example, effective communication ensures that those responsible for such waste know the best practices to follow so they can be managed correctly and reintroduced into the market. Clear communication is also essential to guarantee maximum transparency and traceability in various waste management operations and their outcomes.

'Let's tell some truths' will be the congress's motto, with various talks and case studies, including the participation of SIGAUS and GENCI, to highlight the importance of environmental awareness and communication in the face of hoaxes and misinformation.

"Once again, at SIGAUS and GENCI we are delighted with our collaboration with APIA, and this year, more than ever, we are fully aligned with the congress and its motto, 'Let's tell some truths'," stressed Ainhöa Lizarbe, Director of Institutional Relations and Communication at SIGAUS and GENCI. "For us, it is essential to provide accurate information, and the way to prevent misinformation is by offering transparent, truthful, and fully traceable information."

María García, President of APIA, noted that "this year we are organizing the environmental journalism congress focusing on disinformation and combating hoaxes, Let's tell some truths. And for that we need entities that believe in data and traceability of information. That is why today the agreement with GENCI and SIGAUS is the basis for mutual trust between information sources and environmental journalists".

The opening of this edition of the APIA Congress will be led by the Vice President and Minister for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Sara Aagesen. Additionally, throughout the two days of the congress, attendees can join round tables on topics including disinformation about natural disasters and climate change, journalism in response to disinformation, hoaxes in agroecology, and disinformation at COP30 (United Nations Climate Change Summit), among others.
