The Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), the most recent addition to the SIGAUS Environmental Classroom

One of the largest and most prestigious Universities in Spain in the field of education, the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), has recently joined the SIGAUS Environmental Classroom thanks to the signing of a new Framework Collaboration Agreement that was made official on 4 December, with the presence of the Vice-rector for Institutional Relations, Juan Carlos Doadrio, the Vice-rector for Technology and Sustainability, Jorge Jesús Gómez, and the General Director of SIGAUS, Eduardo de Lecea.

The SIGAUS Environmental Classroom continues to garner support following the start of this new academic year 2020-2021 and it does so with the incorporation of one of the largest and most prestigious universities in Spain, the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), thanks to the signing of a new Framework Collaboration Agreement that has recently been formalised between the Vice-rector for Institutional Relations of the University, Juan Carlos Doadrio and the General Director of SIGAUS, Eduardo de Lecea.

During the signing ceremony at the UCM Rectorate headquarters, Eduardo de Lecea and the Head of Institutional Relations for the university were accompanied by the Vice-rector for Technology and Sustainability, Jorge Jesús Gómez Sanz, who has enabled the participation of SIGAUS, in an educational capacity, in the Master’s course on Occupational Risk Prevention launched by this Vice-rectorate, together with the Rectorate for the Promotion of Preventive Culture, and which includes in its programme a comprehensive teaching syllabus relating to environmental management.

“The SIGAUS Environmental Classroom is delighted to be working with one of the largest and most prestigious universities in the field of education, the Complutense University of Madrid, and continues to work to expand its scope of action with the aim of reaching a greater number of students,” said De Lecea, who recalled that “only in this way will we be guaranteeing that the young people joining the labour market tomorrow will do so knowing the importance of protecting the environment, being efficient in the use of natural resources and transforming waste into usable raw materials again, as enacted by the principles of the Circular Economy”.

The students of this UCM Master’s course thus join the nearly 1,000 students trained so far in the framework of the SIGAUS Environmental Classroom, which already has 8 affiliated centres, more than fifty collaborating professors and provides more than 50 teaching hours, including keynote talks and field visits to management facilities.
