SIGAUS Environmental Classroom and UAM renew their commitment to training

The Director General of SIGAUS, Eduardo de Lecea, and the Director General of Fundación de la Universidad Autónoma (FUAM), Fidel Rodríguez Batalla, have signed a new partnership agreement that reaffirms the joint work they have been carrying out since 2018. The agreement covers training on managing used oils for students on UAM's Master's Degree in Waste Management and Wastewater for the Recovery of Resources, which, this year 2019, has gone from being an In-House Course to become an Official Master's Degree.

SIGAUS Environmental Classroom continues to strengthen its commitment to training for academic year 2019-2020, thanks to the signing of a new agreement with Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) through its Foundation. This collaboration was initially established in 2018 when specific training on industrial used oils was included in UAM's Master's Degree in Waste Management and Wastewater for the Recovery of Resources.

After 16 editions as an In-House Course, this training will become official in this new edition, with the aim of providing students with an Official Title that accredits them –in any place where they wish to develop their career– as experts in sustainable management of waste and the circular economy, marking a step forward in the preparation of these future professionals not only technically and scientifically but also, above all, on a practical level.

The new document was signed at the headquarters of Fundación de la Universidad Autónoma (FUAM), with the attendance of the Director General of SIGAUS, Eduardo de Lecea, and the Director General of FUAM, Fidel Rodríguez Batalla, who were accompanied by the Director of the Master's Degree, Jaime Cuevas, along with some of its coordinators.

This new agreement will allow SIGAUS to support and be directly involved in developing this Official Master's Degree, offering future or working professionals looking to expand their skills specific knowledge of the hazards of used industrial oil and the logistical particularities involved in managing waste.

In the words of Eduardo de Lecea, this partnership with UAM "is a great opportunity to boost a new, much better prepared form of generation, with a special focus on correctly managing waste and the importance of conserving an environment and natural resources that are increasingly at risk". In this regard, he stressed that "collaboration with universities is essential in order bring academic teaching and practical training together, stepping outside of the classroom to renew and expand knowledge.

In the words of the Director of the Master's Degree, Jaime Cuevas, "SIGAUS' sensitivity in supporting this Master's Degree is important as it promotes contact between the University and the company with the goal of sharing skills, something that is essential in ensuring teaching is not isolated from the world of work, as this is the future".

According to those in charge, this Master's Degree offers outstanding professionalism and "allows us to respond to the new social challenges we face in terms of innovation and research, while meeting one of the University's most important roles, apart from teaching and research: knowledge transfer, the most important step in being useful to society", noted the Director of FUAM, Fidel Rodríguez Batalla.

The aim of SIGAUS' Environmental Classroom, set up in 2015, is to ensure this System's commitment to environmental dissemination and awareness becomes a reality, in keeping with the value that has been in the company's DNA since it started out in 2007. With this initiative, SIGAUS wishes to reach out to universities and higher schools, as well as medium-level courses and vocational training centres, in order to provide training on the importance of correctly managing used lubricant waste, its polluting characteristics, its governing regulations, and the obligations incumbent upon workshops and industries to ensure it can be treated later on.
