SIGAUS focuses on social action by supporting Fundación Dravet and Fundación Porque Viven

SIGAUS takes another step on the journey towards returning part of the value generated with its contribution to society. For this reason, on May 9th, two collaboration agreements were signed with two Spanish foundations that assist one of the most vulnerable collectives, children. On one hand, the Entity has committed to give €6,000 to Fundación Dravet that will be designated to researching the syndrome of the same name, a serious form of epilepsy, with genetic origin, that appears before the child's first birthday. On the other hand, SIGAUS will make another donation of €6,000 to Fundación Porque Viven to support the development of pediatric palliative care.

Within the actions implemented by SIGAUS Social Action, a new step has been taken where the Entity provides economic assistance which will be used to promote the work being carried out by two Spanish foundations focused on the health of our youngest family members. Both Fundación Síndrome de Dravet and Porque Viven seek to improve the quality of life for both children with illnesses, which in some cases have no cure and are terminal, and for families that are transformed into carers 24 hours a day.

We share values of commitment and solidarity and both seek to have a more supportive society.

Fundación Síndrome de Dravet

Buenaventura González del Campo, CEO of SIGAUS, together with Eduardo de Lecea, Managing Director of the Entity, received the information provided by Jesús Garzas, the Fundación Síndrome de Dravet representative, who gave first-hand information on what it meant to have a child with this serious type of epilepsy. Detected at a young age, the Foundation essentially focuses on investing in economic contributions to research. In this sense, the three objectives sought are to improve the diagnosis of the syndrome, to find drugs that are effective and, finally, to seek a cure.

Garzas explained the benefits provided by this type of collaboration as it helps to multiply the promotion of the cause. "To receive this collaboration from SIGAUS is a great satisfaction, not only because of the donation made but also because of the attention provided and the promotion they can give through their customers, associates and channels. We share the values of commitment and solidarity and we both aim to achieve a more charitable society", said the representative of the Foundation.

Currently, an average of 200 Spanish families are represented by Fundación Síndrome de Dravet as they have a family member with this syndrome which generates serious neurological effects in the child's developing brain. This produces cognitive problems, difficulties with language and variations in the patient's behaviour. Through the foundation, these people have access to a care unit, studies on mutations in family members, discounts for purchasing products related to caring for the illness and various family activities.

They help us to make new projects such as the home care of the child. The respite so that all the family members have a moment and can rest from day to day care.

Fundación Porque Viven

Both José Manuel González Sánchez, Chair of Fundación Porque Viven, and the Director, José Carlos López Seisdedos, carry out work that is invisible to the majority of society, with children in incurable clinical situations that receive better assistance adapted to their family, the professionals and society.

The signature of the agreement with SIGAUS has provided the opportunity to explain a reality that thousands of families in Spain experience when facing palliative care and loss of a child. The managers of the Entity learned about the details of the star program at the Foundation, Respiro. According to González Sánchez, the type of donation received from SIGAUS "helps us to undertake new projects such as home care for the child. A break so that all of the family members can have a moment to themselves and take a break from the 24-hour day-to-day care, thanks to the professional that we bring to their homes. It is very important for those children and for those families that we provide that Family Break so that the child can have the best life possible."

With an average of 65 children with their respective families benefiting from the care and attention provided by the Foundation, the progress experienced in the area of pediatric palliative care is substantial. Although the children's palliative care unit is currently located in Madrid, the Foundation managers are working to promote their work throughout Spain so that the families that are experiencing this difficult situation can receive support from people that understand them.
