SIGAUS continues to add support for its dissemination work through the Basque centre for environmental education, Artigas-Arraiz

SIGAUS continues to bring in new collaborators within the framework of its Environmental Classroom and its commitment to training and environmental awareness. This is demonstrated by the new agreement with Artigas-Arraiz Waste Interpretation Centre, a part of Vizcaya Provincial Council, which SIGAUS has just enlisted with the objective of offering informative audiovisual materials and actual samples of waste, thus allowing visitors to learn more about the particularities of used lubricant, its hazardous nature and the importance of preventing its environmental impact.

This new agreement was signed in Bilbao with the presence of Elena Unzueta, representing the Provincial Council of Vizcaya; María Presa, the Provincial Council's Director-General of the Environment; and Jon Sáenz de Viguera, Managing Director of Garbiker, a public company in charge of managing this centre.

Together with SIGAUS, a further 15 collaborating businesses and organisations renewed their support for this environmental education centre, which is used to offer training programs on different urban and industrial waste: in the form of workshops, audiovisual projections and visits to the interactive exhibition, therefore, helping to understand the origins, management, and treatment of waste including the benefits of proper treatment and reuse.

“Thanks to all the organisations and businesses that have given their support, we can all be part of a very interesting, enriching dissemination project, continuing to give it fresh impetus," said the Vizcaya Member of the Provincial Council for Sustainability after the signing by SIGAUS.

During the signing ceremony, the Member of the Provincial Council for Sustainability referred to the importance of public-private collaborations as a way to advance in environmental awareness, and expressed gratitude for their continued support for the centre and its work, thanks to which there has been both a significant increase in the number of visitors and also growing interest from schools over recent years.

For its part, SIGAUS continues to defend joint work as key to getting over its message to society and to transmitting both the importance of proper management of hazardous wastes such as used industrial oil and also the environmental and economic benefits of their use, in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 17, which commends alliances and cooperation as a way to achieve goals, exchanging ideas in order to encourage innovation and achieve sustainable growth and development.
