The SIGAUS Environmental Classroom, which began its ongoing collaboration with education centres in 2018, has signed a new Collaboration Agreement with the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM). The university will therefore take part in this training initiative launched by SIGAUS with a view to providing future professionals in the fields most closely linked to the use of lubricants with technical knowledge regarding their management and recovery based on the principles of the Circular Economy.

SIGAUS is officially adding a new centre to its SIGAUS Environmental Classroom: The Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), which will take part in this training initiative through its Master’s course in Circular Economy, taught by the ETSIMFMN (School of Forestry Engineering and Natural Resources), whose Director, Luis García Esteban, signed the Collaboration Agreement alongside the General Director of SIGAUS, Eduardo de Lecea.

The signing ceremony in the UPM School of Forestry’s main building was also attended by Agustín Rubio, Coordinator of the Master’s course and the Centre’s Academic Secretary, José Vicente López, a teacher on the course and Coordinator of the UPM Environmental Innovation Group and Belén Vázquez de Quevedo, also a teacher on the course.

Thanks to this new collaboration agreement, the SIGAUS Environmental Classroom will provide the students of this Master’s course with the knowledge they need to develop, in their future professional career, responsible and committed attitudes regarding the correct management of waste, in this case, hazardous waste such as used lubricants. The course also highlights the importance of the good use of natural resources and the use of waste which, as in the case of used industrial oil, can become a valid raw material to form part of new production processes or be transformed into energy.

The Master’s course aims to meet growing demand for professionals specialised in Circular Economy, a field that has been evolving very rapidly in recent years and is aimed at industry professionals, senior managers and executives of companies and public bodies seeking to acquire the knowledge and skills required to manage this transformation in their organisations and the personal skills needed to design, assess and implement innovative solutions for the future.
