“The recovery we want” has been the motto of the 15th edition of the National Environmental Congress, which should have been held last November, and had to be postponed due to health restrictions. 1,200 specialists from various departments have worked to organise this event dedicated to making the Circular Economy a reality in all areas of society. During the four-day event, representatives of the business world, Public Agencies and a wide range of professionals have reflected on various issues that affect our environment, such as the rise in e-commerce, mobility habits during the pandemic and how to approach energy transition in a way that preserves biodiversity and the territory.

SIGAUS was present at the event with a stand where it was able to share with visitors its Circular Economy model for industrial oil, which enables the collection and use of 100% of the lubricant waste generated in Spain, through the service it offers to the 67,500 oil-producing establishments in more than 161,000 collections per year. The Organisation also shared the significant results achieved with this effective management, which in 2020 enabled the generation of 55,000 tons of new lubricants thanks to regenerated waste, thus avoiding the emission of 59,000 tons of CO2.

In addition to sharing this information with visitors, the Organisation also launched a mini-contest during CONAMA on its Facebook and Instagram pages, in order to share with followers its commitment both to this key environmental event and to the Circular Economy.

‘The recovery we want’ has been the motto of the 15th edition of the National Environmental Congress, which has addressed various topics such as the rise in e-commerce and mobility habits during the pandemic.

Prominent figures committed to the environment

Various Public Agency representatives and prominent figures linked to the environmental sector also participated in the Congress. Specifically, the inauguration was attended by Teresa Ribera, Fourth Vice-President and Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, who, during her speech, highlighted the need for society to apply critical thinking to better understand the environmental variable in building together as a society. To achieve the “recovery we want” – the Congress motto – priorities must be based on redirecting our perspective regarding the use of resources, achieving a decarbonised and innovative industry that takes the circular economy into account and facing up to “a pending debate about taxation, how to create a much more equitable tax system”, said the minister.

Teresa Ribera's participation was followed by a dialogue between the Secretary of State for the Environment, Hugo Morán, the Director of SEO/BirdLife, Asun Ruiz, the Director of the CSIC’s Ecology and Global Change group, Fernando Valladares, and Endesa’s General Manager of Generation, Rafael González.
